Just for the record, here are the results of last night's SC District 1 special election.
Sanford 54%, Colbert-Busch 45%.
So, in effect, let me summarize:
1) Cheat on your wife.
2) Lie to your constituents about your whereabouts.
3) Leave no chain of command responsibility in case of an emergency in South Carolina.
4) Use taxpayer money to fly to Argentina.
5) Lie about your whereabouts (x2); cheat on your wife (x2).
6) Resign in disgrace.
7) Commit a misdemeanor on your ex-wife's property, with a court case pending (naturally, in the GOP-dominated South, a decision is due two days after the election).
8) Win a PROMOTION to a federal position of responsibility.
Because nothing amiss can possibly occur then, right?
This is disgraceful on so many different levels, and really reveals the hypocricy of many "social conservatives" in the deep South and how scaremongering and race-baiting still have a fundamentally disgusting and disproportionate effect on the honest Southerners who actually (ye gods!) live by the beliefs we espouse, whether publicly or privately.
